Casting a wary eye on Teaneck politics and municipal affairs

Bracing for it

The Master Plan revision is out, which means that a litany of complaints and a storm of criticism should be quick to follow. Yet, having leafed through the document, I am having trouble figuring out what will lead to the panic and outrage that accompanies any proposal for change in Teaneck. What will set off the critics in this seemingly balanced and carefully written document that appears to respect the existing character of community and urge caution and restraint in development?

Help me out here, please. What awful concessions to greedy developers are being shoved down our throats? What new reason is there to fear for Teaneck's future? Is it the recommendation to allow 55' buildings in the Plaza area? The end of fast food on Teaneck Road? What am I missing? I know there will be hell to pay once more people get a chance to read this disgraceful plan, but I am just not certain why...

The real problem is that it doesn't allow any room for WalMart and some other big income sources!

Actually it does leave room for a WalMart or any "Big Box" development. Fairleigh Dickinson according to this plan can sell off parcells. Yippie!! We don't have to drive to Hackensack!

The only developments proposed in Teaneck have been very high density multifamily developments. They are inappropriate and have been jammed down peoples throats! Blogger, please let us know of a development that is not urban in nature, multifamily, and to dense?

With New York City at 8.2 million (officially-never mind the street dwellers) after being 7 million 30 years ago, how long will the suburbs be the suburbs? "Urban" will be here, there, everywhere within 20 years. It's all one big city whether we like it or not. You can only buy a little more time.

Urban is already here, the problem with the proposed developments is they are poorly planned and of low quality. Nothing to aspire to in an urban area let alone Teaneck. Bad design is bad design.

So you'd give up the riverfront to Sir Norman Foster and I.M. Pei?

It is remarkable to look at the "urban" development of Englewood and Ridgewood over the past decade, that has enriched the quality of their communal lives while enhancing economic development. Then to look at Teaneck which has wallowed in its own mediocrity paralyzed by NIMBY one trick ponies.

Do you think those people who would rather see taxes go up up and away than see any development in Teaneck, ever walk along the west end of New York enjoying all the revitalization there?

Yes. "Urban" development in both Englewood and Ridgewood is commendable and useful to the community--but is the proposed development in Teaneck? I don't think so. It's ugly. Look at what we have. Tell the town to clean up the business districts, we don't need a master plan to see landlords throwing trash all over their properties. CLEAN THEM UP!! GET RID OF THEM!!

What development proposals had the current council brought in? So much for Michael Bloomberg type leaders. Get rid of them.

And where in Teaneck have these inappropriately dense developments been built? I haven't run across them yet, and more to the point, the new Master Plan does not seem to suggest allowing them in the future, unless I am missing something.

There is virtually no support for such projects within Teaneck, not from Mayor Katz, not from Councilman Rudolph, and certainly not from me. There is, however, a loud, if not necessarily large, group of residents convinced that the sky is falling and that a conspiracy is afoot to transform Teaneck into a developers' playground.

I ask again, what exactly has been shoved down your throat up to now? The commitment to examine different development options and rethink the ways thing have been down up to now? Oh, the horror.

What new things will now be shoved down your throat with the adoption of this new Master Plan? I don't see cause for alarm here, and you have not yet convinced me that I should.

It seems so far that the only one making out is Rudolph!

And you don't even live in town, just like most of your brothers don't.

Hi
My name is Carolina, I’m from Brazil. I don’t speak much English, so apologize if I make some mistakes. I’m intending to live in Teaneck to learn English and also to learn more about the Americans and their culture. So, why I came here??? Well, I was looking for some informations and photos about your city and I found a lot of about the city, but I didn’t found photos. I came in to this blog to give you my e-mail and msn. If you have some photos of the city to send me or would like to talk with me more about your city that will gives me a great joy.

Sorry again about my English. But as soon as possible I’ll be there to learn all that I can.

Thanks,

Carolina

Is this a valid email? or some type of scam? I vote for the latter.
