Casting a wary eye on Teaneck politics and municipal affairs

Call off the hounds

Looks like the Bergen County Democratic Organization's challenge to our incumbent Democratic State Senator and Assembly members will be aborted. While there will certainly be some face-saving excuse for why Wildes, Zisa, and Wilson are going to drop out of what had already become a bitterly contested race, it seems pretty clear that the slate had not gotten enough traction with voters to make it worth continuing.

While it is terrific to see the machine break in the face of a crucial test and there was never any chance that this campaign would ever be about real issues anyway, this is not an unequivocally good thing for the 37th district or Bergen County as a whole. No, only a resounding defeat at the polls in full view of the public, the kind of loss that would completely demoralize the BCDO from the leadership on down, would really shake things up enough to give real systemic reform a chance of working. This tactical retreat by the party will probably do little to dampen its growing local influence and weaken the vise grip in which it holds much of the area. With all the money saved and favors not yet called in, the BCDO lives to fight another day.

With this chapter almost closed, the biggest sighs of relief in Teaneck today may not be those of Sen. Weinberg. The most relieved people in Teaneck may be found in the Municipal Building, where certain Council members may be pleased that they will not be called upon to risk crossing constituents by bashing Weinberg & Co. in a compulsory public demonstration of loyalty to Joseph Ferriero and the BCDO. Phew!

Apparently this feud was even causing problems on a national level.

As for Teaneck Blog, you'll be interested to know that this little snippet was picked up by BlueJersey and posted as an addendum to their own entry on the subject:

Why BlueJersey picked this passage I don't know. I thought the point about the BCDO's tactical retreat not being an unequivocally good thing was more thought-provoking.

In any event, some damage has already been done for one Teaneck Council member. Is complaint-filer Adam now supposed to "say it ain't so"?

Yitz Stern, and his protege Elnatan Rudolph, were both purchased by Boss Joe to deliver the Orthodox vote he thought would help him hit Loretta Weinberg right in her hometown. Mayor Katz and Councilman Gussen all jumped aboard the supposed bandwagon of their coreligionist, Micahel Wildes, and fell hook, line, and sinker for the salespitch from Stern and Rudolph that they could deliver the goods for Boss Joe.

In a rather humbling event, Boss Joe conceded defeat, recognizing that even with all the money and petty power, that the people just weren't buying this bill of goods. Sure there would have been alot of smoke, but in the end much money would have been wasted and the careers of Michael Wildes and Ken Zisa would have been down the toilet, plunged down just ahead of Boss Ferriero.

Stern and Rudolph, Katz and Gussen, have all been taught a lesson they greatly needed. They made fools of themselves and Teaneck.

Political competition is the best thing for Teaneck. Differences in opinion result in logical, balanced dialogues and decisions.

When will democrats have a choice in who makes the decisions?

either you are ignorant or just dumb the attention that the blog is refering to is because mayor Katz is not only a strong supporter of Lorreta Weinberger but also sits on her reelection campaign. Maybe if Katz was more "Boss Joe friendly" teaneck would start getting more county money- just look at how much Rudolf has brought in- don't know if Stern has done anything

Katz and Loretta have always supported each other in the last few elections I've got the mailings to prove it-

it's true Katz Honis, Kates and Parker were for team Wienberg- Rudy and Gusson were team Wildes Not sure if Feit made up his mind

Katz was 100% behind Weinberg in previous elections, and past mailings only prove who he supported in the past.

Typically two faced Mayor Katz was a quite strong supporter of his coleague from Englewood. Wildes was trotted out by the mayor to all sorts of Teaneck events to make his shameless campaign pitches and Katz was working quite hard to push Weinberg out of office.

If its true, Katz had alot of nerve to stay on Loretta's campaign committee without disclosing that he was working with his fellow councilmen behind her back as hard as he could to support Wildes and to undermine her.

But as a man who won't take a stand if he can take two or three stands at the same time, Katz has never learned that you can't please all the people all the time. The man who will say anything to make you happy will insist that he was supporting Weinberg all along. Don't believe a word of it.

I dont know what you are refering to with Wildes- I think you may be refering to former mayor Kates who as was reported on this site said to be meeting with boss Joe to try to join his ticket when this whole thing started

Kates was the one who was rumored that she was meeting with Zisa early in the campaign. And we all know how Jackie wants everyone to love her. If there is any whiffle-waffling here, it is on the part on Jackie Kates.

How is Mr. Stern's name in the blogs again? What does he have to do with this campaign? Are we talking about last May's election???

How is Jackie Kates' name in the blogs' again? It's like whatever we're talking about, blame Jackie and throw in some preposterous "rumors" for good measure.

I have noticed that the posts on this site are a little one sided. I might point out that before the current chairman was ELECTED, Bergen County was solidly Republican. Since then, the county has been transitioning to Democratic support. Where we better off being represented by Republicans who don't represent our views to any significant degree? Also, if you all don't approve of the chairman's tactics, why didn't you all speak up during the election during which he was overwhelmingly elected? Then we could all be represented by anti choice conservative republicans after all semblence of political infrastructure for the county ddemocrats has fallen apart. This is part of the problem, you all don't think about political feasability. If change is what you want, and you're unhappy with the way things are, get off your butts, stop whining, and get involved in the political process. Either run yourselves, or make your voices known to those who do devote their lives to public service.
