It takes a village
Throughout his unsuccessful campaign for a spot on the Teaneck Township Council, John Annillo championed the idea of a transit village in Teaneck to boost ratables and attract commuters who would support local businesses. Now more evidence has emerged that such developments can indeed boost revenues without putting additional strain on the school system. Here's hoping that more consideration is given to this idea.

Too bad other residents did not find the time to look into this idea.
I did, thats why I voted for John!
Had I understood more about it I probably would have voted for hom too. Frankly, I just assumed he meant we would have giant parking lots build on Teaneck Rd. and somehow charge people for it.
But more seriously, this sounds like an interesting **long term** project, but given that we don't have a rail link at all yet, and little realistic possiblity of getting one soon, I wouldn't pin my hopes on it.
However, I can only imagine the furor that will arise at the prospect of large commercial development along the path that a rail link would travel.
They should build a transit-oriented village which includes condos and townhomes, retail and a major park and ride facility at the site across DeGraw from Glenpointe. Then, NJ Transit can create a special express 167 bus that departs and arrives from the park and ride every 10 minutes at rush hour. I bet there's federal transportation money available for this type of project.
The Bergen-Hudson Light Rail systems was touted or sold to us as serving both Hudson and Bergen County. Billions were spent to serve Hudson and Giant Stadium. It was recently announced that the light rail line was ending at Giant Stadium not the Vince Lombardi Service Area as planned. The only way access to light rail can be accomplished is contingent upon three things and all are very expensive propositions. To make it cost effective with a direct route to Manhattan require the Trans-Hudson tunnel with a price tag of 14 billion in current dollars and/or the diesel multiple engine which uses multiple energy sources is a costly engine that switches between energy sources electric and diesel. Then CSX the West Shore Line which is projected to double in capacity then double again (through Teaneck) would have to give up their line which serves the “Chemical Corridor” of Newark and Port Elizabeth.
I proposed “Transit Village” when gas was .99 now @ 2.99, then again I asked that it be incorporated in the streetscape and received criticism in the Suburbanite by the “Bookstore Guy” Howard Rose who explained away funds from state and county sources like these taxpayer supported agencies didn’t get their funding out of taxpayer pockets. It is just simpler to build a multi-level parking garage, lease out the spaces to commuters monthly to pay for the building, incorporate three express bus lines (to GW Bridge PA, Lincoln Tunnel PA and Secaucus Transfer Station (now we have access to rail service)) then Teaneck would get DOT and NJ Transit dollars. Besides our excellent labor pool (our residents) and streetscapes a transit system is highly attractive to business and commuters who then become shoppers and return home requiring minimal municipal services and we preserve our residential quality of life.
